This week’s Sunday Select takes us back to Stance Wars 2013 in Bellevue, Washington.
I don’t believe my early beginnings in photographing cars is much different than many others out there who share the same passion. I started by photographing my own car as I slowly modified it, then moved on to taking pictures of my friends cars, which then lead to photographing car shows during the summer. I always felt shows were a great place to push myself to try and shoot a little different from the norm. With the abundance of mobile phone shooters, and what seems to be every second person and their dog sporting a dSLR these days – especially at car shows – it can be tough to find much difference between the copious amount of images being posted online following many of these events.
I’m not say my photography was anything superior to anyone else’s, far from it. But I did make a mental note prior to each show to insure I tried something a little different from what I saw being done by other show shooters. At times it worked, helping me find a slightly different angle and/or composition. It’s something I’ve taken away from those early days of car show shooting, applying a similar approach to my shoots today.
I haven’t shot a show in a couple years now. And I barely attended any this past season, which is too bad. The social aspect was always my favorite part of attending.
It’s a bit funny I suppose, one of the things which helped propel my automotive photography I rarely have time for anymore because I’m too busy with my automotive photography. haha
Thank you for taking the time to view my photography!

*Sunday Select is a weekly installment where I pull an image from my archive – new or old – and share it. Sometimes giving a breakdown on how I created it, challenges I may have encountered during the shoot, or nothing other than an “I like it”, or sometimes “Don’t Like It” and why.
