This past year I’ve been fortunate to see my client list expand, sometimes at a fairly slow rate, and other times to my surprise a few are added at once. Either way, I’m always grateful for the opportunity to work with all of them to create the images they need. And it’s certainly isn’t any different with my latest addition, Bonhams. If you’re familiar with the auction, fine art, and collectors market, then you’re probably familiar with their name – being one of the world’s oldest and largest auctioneers.
So being approached by them to photograph for their Collectors’ Motorcars department is an honor.
Our first shoot together took place this past weekend with this stunning 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster.
Their primary use for the images will be for their catalog and website to showcase the car which will be up for auction during the Quail Lodge Auction on August 14th, 2015.
This shoot had a lot of elements to it since it was important to capture as much of the car as possible – which was a challenge due to the details in this beautiful car are seemingly endless.
I was really attracted to the look of the car with the hardtop, and apparently I’m not the only one. I learned during the shoot from the owner, the hardtop is very appealing to the hardcore Jaguar enthusiast community and is a feature many are drawn to – and I can understand why.
The shot-list I was provided with also required us to capture images with the soft top and custom cover.
As mentioned above, capturing all the details was a huge undertaking with so much in every inch of the car. I’ll even admit, I probably missed some due to the volume of goodness this Jag has.
The soundtrack from the combination of the 6 cylinder and custom straight pipe exhaust was phenomenal as we were cruising spiritedly up the mountain road… Yes, spiritedly, wouldn’t you?
This is just a small selection of images from the full shoot. In the end I submitted 80 final selects which may seem like a lot for a project like this, but it easily could have been more with this car.
Before this shoot took place I had only seen these older E-Types in photos, so to have the opportunity to get up-close and personal with one was incredible. But this doesn’t end my close encounter with the E-Type. Tomorrow (or I suppose by the time this post goes live it’ll be today) I get a second opportunity to photograph another E-type for Bonhams. So if you enjoyed this car and the photos, stay tuned for more.
Thank you for taking the time to view my photography!
